Solid-state storage is volatile. Follow this recommended sequential timeline protocol immediately after data loss to secure maximum results.

Stop All Heavy Writing Immediately

Do not copy, stream, or download web files onto the SSD. Avoid launching demanding background software like game clients, database queries, or heavy media editors which write temporary partition cache files that cover deleted sectors.

Do Not Reinstall Your Operating System

If the files were deleted from a boot partition, reinstalling system configurations or checking software updates runs intensive disk write routines that overwrite deleted storage blocks instantly. Run the portable version of Eassiy instead.

Can deleted SSD files always be recovered?

No. Recovery depends on TRIM, overwriting, and SSD condition.

If the TRIM command has already run and cleared the storage blocks (which often happens within minutes of deletion), the data is permanently wiped at the hardware level. However, if the deletion was recent or TRIM is disabled, recovery is highly successful.

Does formatting permanently erase SSD data?

Not always. Quick formatting often leaves opportunities for recovery.

A Quick Format recreates the file system directory structure but does not overwrite the actual flash storage cells immediately. If you run a deep scan immediately, you stand a high chance of extracting raw files before TRIM cleans the unallocated sectors.

Yes. SSD controllers manage deleted data differently.

HDDs leave deleted data on magnetic sectors indefinitely until manually overwritten. SSDs use Flash Translation Layers (FTL) and TRIM commands to pre-emptively erase deleted blocks to maintain high write speeds, making timing crucial for SSD recovery.

Many external SSDs (connected via USB or Thunderbolt) do not support the TRIM protocol over bridge controllers, meaning deleted data behaves more like standard HDDs and remains recoverable for a much longer period of time.
